Mix it Up!!!

At the end of October, our school participated in National Mix It Up Day.  This is a day throughout the country where students are encouraged step outside of their comfort level and spend time with others than they normally do.  I have been in some schools where this simply meant putting up signs that say "Sit with someone new today."  Well at Central Woodlands, this was not the case...

Thanks to our staff and especially to Mrs. Bouley, our Mix It Up lunch was a huge success.  Students were assigned to tables where Parent Volunteers (there were so many!) facilitated conversations among the students.  Students and staff wore clothes that symbolized Mix It Up and we had a lot of fun and learning.

What was interesting was that when we first told students about this, many were nervous.  They were not sure about the idea of sitting with students they did not know.  In the days leading up to the event, we continued to talk about what would be happening and they became more excited.  However, it was a good reminder of our need to continually challenge our 5th and 6th grade students to "stretch" themselves to grow!

Please enjoy the video from that day!
